Children’s Ministry Monthly Update October, 2011
A Little Sunday School Teacher Humor! LOT'S WIFE
The Sunday School teacher was describing how Lot 's wife looked back and turned into a pillar of salt, when little Jason interrupted, 'My Mommy looked back once while she was driving,' he announced triumphantly, 'and she turned into a telephone pole!'
Elementary Sunday School
We are finishing up our unit on the Seven Helpers and have met several of our own “helpers” here at church. Mrs. Betty Hottenstein came and talked about how she helps with the Senior Citizens. Mrs. Theresa Richerson talked about the Food Pantry Ministry and talked about working in Washington D.C. on Sept. 11, 2001. Mrs. Elizabeth Sheetz talked about how she works with the kitchen staff and the custodial staff and pays the church’s bills. We introduced Rev. Peter Von Hermann who prayed for us and we introduced Stacy Parsons as the new 4th5th Fellowship Coordinator. Although we could use a few more teachers and shepherds, it’s been a smooth transition into the new school year.
Our next unit will begin on October 9. We are going to take a look at the prophet Jeremiah. The memory bible verse is Jeremiah 1:7-8. The offering during this month will support the Church wide Mission Emphasis.
7 But the Lord said to me, “Do not say, ’I’m only a child.’ You must go to everyone I send you to. You must say everything I command you to say. 8 do not be afraid of the people I send you to. I am with you. I will save you,” announces the Lord.
IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT FOR ELEMENTARY SUNDAY SCHOOL
For the rest of the school year, all teachers who teach 6 week units in elementary Sunday school will receive a Thank you gift of 2 weeks of free family meals on Wednesday Midweek nights. They will get the coupons in the lesson folder. I thank Reid Crotty and Elizabeth Sheetz for making this possible. Please look at the attached Sunday School schedules.
Preschool Sunday School
We are still in need of a 3 year old Sunday School Class Leader and teachers. The Class Leader helps make sure the curriculum is divided into the units and helps recruit other parents and adults as teachers. The Preschool is on a weekly teacher rotation instead of monthly or yearly assignment. There is also a few 4 yr. old Sundays we need teachers. Please pray about and consider working with the 3 and/or 4 year olds.
Midweek Ministry for Preschoolers
We need to make sure all children are signed in on the preschool hall. Starting this Wednesday Oct. 5 there will be a second sign- in station in the hallway by the back door. All preschool parents must sign their children into the preschool hall before walking them to their class. Thank you!
4th5th Fellowship
We are delighted to have Stacy Parsons as our new coordinator for the 4th 5th Fellowship Group. She is working on Wednesday and Sunday nights. She brings experience and energy to the group. There will be a trip to the Bibb’s house on Oct. 9 at 3:30p.m. to play miniature golf. The group will come back for snack supper. You can pick them up at 6p.m. and if you want, take them to the Power and Glory Concert!
BIG STEPS 2nd-5th Grade Children’s Church
Our next Sunday will be Oct. 16. We have told the children that the service is theirs so if they want to rename it, they can! So please ask your children if they can think of a good name for it. The children leave the sanctuary after the Children’s Moment with the preschoolers. Rhonda Fort and Susan Toth meet the children at the back of the sanctuary and take them to the Fellowship Classroom, behind the hand bells room. Those of you who would like to help can contact Rhonda Fort, Susan Toth, or Leigh Delashaw. The children would enjoy your participation!

Workers will take there CPR course on Oct. 9, 2011 in the Fireside room. If you would like to join us and get CPR certified, please let Mrs. Leigh know. 822.0910, ext. 107. From The Art of Prayer, by Meryl Doney-
If you are happy, if something good has happened or if you are in a beautiful place, tell God about it. Express your feelings. Give thanks for where you believe they are due. An old children’s song goes:
“Count your blessings! Name them one by one,
And it will surprise you what the Lord has done!” Amen
Happy Fall Blessings!
