We are delighted to announce the addition of a Glockenstern to the McCoy Pipe Organ in the sanctuary. A Glockenstern is a musical instrument that rings small bells at random as an accompaniment to organ music. The German words mean “bell-star”. Glockensterns and the similar but smaller Zimblesterns have been used for centuries in devotional music as an overtone to festive and triumphant pieces.

 

The Glockenstern is dedicated in memory of Carolyn McCracken, who served for many years as our Handbell Director and who loved the McCoy Pipe Organ.
